Venetian naval preparations according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 25 December 1784

According to an item dated Livorno 2 December was reported from Venice that the Senate during a meeting on 22 November from between 10.00-21.00 o’clock decided to prepare the navy as soon as possible. Several commanding officers were ordered to supply a squadron which was to go to sea next spring with victuals. The number of labourers on the yards was increased with another 800 men.
