Turkish naval preparations according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 24 February 1785

According to an item dated Constantinople 5 January were there quite a lot of signals that the Ottoman empire was preparing for a war. The navy was quite increased and all ready counting 50 ships armed with 58-86 guns. A lot of French officers offered their service and were appointed. In the arsenal at Constantinople and at Scutari were the keels laid down of some new warships and in the harbour were some French ships anchored.
