Spanish and Neapolitan warships escorting future Spanish king Carlos III towards Spain according to the Dutch magazine Maandelyksche Nederlandsche Mercurius dated September 1759

Tidings from Naples reported that on 20 and 21 August three couriers arrived, coming from Spain with the news of the death of the king and the crown was succeeded by the king of the Two Sicilies.(1) He accepted the Spanish crown and four ships of the line and two frigates were fitted out wile waiting for an expected Spanish squadron to escort the king to his new kingdom Spain.

1. Carlos III (20 January 1716-14 December 1788), king between 10 August 1759 and 14 December 1788, son of Philip V, who succeeded his brother Ferdinand VI. Since 1731 Duke of Parma and Piacenza as Carlos I, conquered the kingdom of Naples and of Sicily and crowned as king Carlos on 3 July 1735 although also known as Carlos VII of Naples or Carlos V of Sicily. When he accepted the Spanish crown his son Ferdinand (I) became king of the Two Socilies.
