Turkish oiler Ulku 1934-1950’s


She was launched as the cargo vessel Shandon on 15 May 1919 at the shipyard of Richardsons Westgarth, Hartlepool with as yard number H602 for the Atlantic Shipping&Trading Company Company Limited (W.J. Tatem Limited), completed in August that same year and acquired in 1934 by Barzilay&Benjamin, Istanbul, Turkey and that same year by the Turkish navy and finally broken up in the 50‘s. With a displacement of 7,233 tons, a deadweight of 5,150 tons and a gross tonnage of 3,069 tons were the dimensions 331 x 46¾ x 21¾ (mean feet. The triple expansion engines and 3 cylinder boilers supplied 1,750 hp allowing a speed of 10 knots.
