Brazilian transport Rio Apa wrecked according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 13 September 1887

An item reported that the Brazilian transport Rio Apa was wrecked with all men on board and daily bodies beached which were buried on the strands. Large numbers of thieves were swarming over the beach to rob the dead and cutting their fingers of if necessary to get their rings. A raft was find with a number of bodies on it; probably were the men killed by starvation and cold. The wreckage found place on a distance of 40-60 miles of the beaches with broad daylight. Probably the men fought on board fought to survive. So was the body of a kook found killed by several dagger sticking and while on his body an amount of 60,000 francs was found.
