Italian navy supporting Spanish general Franco in civil war according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 12 June 1939
An item published more details about the Italian help for the Spanish general Franco while referring to the military magazine Forze Armate. This latter magazine reported that in August 1936 Italian warships and war stores were send to Majorca. When the Spanish Republican troops were defeated was Ibiza occupied by Italian troops. Between December 1936 and April 1937 were for instance 100,000 men and 750 guns send by Italy. Totally 52 transports made 132 voyages while being escorted by 30 Italian warships. Italian submarines supported Franco by holding since November 1936 Republican transports and sunk a large number of these ships despite the fact that it was difficult to identify these ships.
