Neapolitan navy transport not welcome at Messina according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 14 August 1837

An item reported that the arrival on 12 July at Messina of a Royal transport coming from Naples caused a revolt. The common people which was made to believe that this ship brought the cholera to Messina and demanded that it would depart immediately. The quarantine building was inside partly demolished, the documents thrown in the sea, three guards disarmed and the police inspector abused. Not only after the departure of the ship was the calm restored.
