Russian navy destroyed Turkish squadron off Sinope according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad daily edition dated 12 December 1853

An item dated Odessa Monday 5 December reported that the Russian admiral Naschikoff defeated off Sinope on 30 November with his squadron of six ships of the line the Turkish flotilla commanded by Osman Pacha. The latter squadron consisting of seven frigates, two corvettes, one steamship and three transports was returning from the Circassian coast bringing war stores to the Cherkess (the Adyghe/Adygs or Circassians). Within an hour were all Turkish ships destroyed and her admiral taken prisoner of war.
