Spanish navy acting against Algerian privateers according to the Dutch magazine De Maandelyksche Nederlandsche Mercurius March 1766

Tidings from Algiers reported that on 2 February a Spanish snow and bark loaded with anchovy and sardines were captured and a ‘suspicious’ British frigate loaded with masts and other naval stores destined towards America was seized as lacking an sufficient pas-avant. On 11 January were tidings received that the Spanish captured two Algerian privateers and destroyed a third one. At that moment were 9 Algerian privateers still at sea armed with 8-32 guns and within short time were 2-24 gun and 1-14 gun newly build privateers sent towards open sea.
