An item dated London 8/12 August reported that the transport bringing the colonial troops from South Africa homewards were so overcrowded that this caused a large number of deaths.(1) Such a large number that the cabinets of Australia and New Zealand appointed a commission to investigate how this had been possible. Also in London was the cabinet upset and appointed a royal commission of investigation.

Note
