French naval preparations at Brest according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 13 August 1844

An item reported that according to a tiding from Paris dated 10 August the three gun brigs l’Alouette, la Tactique and la Vigie were anchored off the roads of Brest to depart anytime according to rumours destined towards Senegal but more probably first to visit Cadiz, Spain and than to join the Prince van Joinville. Captain Brouet who recently departed to join the Prince was against using these gun brigs while ships with such a small draught could be easily captured while operating in Moroccan waters.
