An item reported that the British cabinet was negotiating the building of a steam troop transport of 2,000 tons towards the Gold Coast with accommodation for 25 officers. Another new transport of 800 was to be used as victualler.(1)

Note
1. Gold Coast part of what nowadays is Ghana was a British colony between 1867 and 1957 and to which in 1872 the Dutch Golden Coast (including the once Portuguese fortress dElima) was added. British Togoland which was a former Germany colony was since 1919 linked to Gold Coast and in 1956 incorporated.
