Onassis and his whalers in Peruvian and Argetinean waters according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws dated 16 December 1954

An item dated Lima 15 December referred to the newspaper La Prensa which reported that negotiations started between Argentina and representatives of Onassis (1) with the purpose to change the flag under his whalers operated from Panama to Argentine. In exchange for a profit contract would Onassis acquire exclusive fishing rights from Argentina. However Argentina denied everything.

Another Dutch newspaper De nieuwsgier dated the 15th published an item dated Lima the 14th that four hours after Aristoteles Onasses paid the penalty of 3.00.000 his five seized by Peru whalers leaded by the Olympic Challenger were released. Escorted by a Peruvian destroyer they headed of the open sea towards the Galapagos where the other whalers were. At Callao were water and victuals loaded. As soon as they joined the other ships was the intention to continue the catch.

Aristoteles Socrates Onassis (15 January 1906 Karatass/Smyrna, nowadays the Turkish town Izmir-15 March 1975 Nieully-sur-Seine, France) who was a well known entrepeneur especially freighters and tankers and in the years 1950-1956 successful operating whalers off the Pruvian coast. He sold afterwards his interests in this business to a Japanese whaling company. On 20 October 1968 he married Jacqueline Bouvier, widow of the former US president John F. Kennedy.
