Russian cabinet interested in buying German merchant ships according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 14 February 1905

An item reported that according to tidings received from Berlin the Russian cabinet was again negotiating with the Hamburg-Amerika-Lijn for buying some ships including the large mail boat Deutschland.(1)

1. Launched on 4 March 1913 at the shipyards of Blohm&Voss at Hamburg, Germany and commissioned on 5 January a year later. With a measurement of 54.282 gross tons and as dimensions 276,59 (registered)-289,55 (over all) x 30,48 x 19,20 (depth) metres. With a speed of 23 (cruise)-25,84 (maximum) knots. Seized by the US Shipping Board cased by the outbreak of the First World War when she visited New York during  her maiden voyage. On 25 July 1917 was she handed over to the US navy where she was used as a troop transport and on 6 September of the same year renamed Leviathan. After the war reconverted into a passenger ship was she used by the United States Line for some voyages and finally broken up in 1938 at Rosyth, Scotland.
