American tugs used for police services in the Philippines according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 29 April 1899

An item reported that the American secretary of navy Long (1)was compiling a fleet of small vessels for police services along the coast and inner waters of the Philippines. Some of the large ocean going tugs used in the Cuban waters were fitted out for this purpose. They were to sail along the South Sea coast in northern direction via the Aleutian islands, Hakodade and Hong Kong towards Manila.
