The future of the British naval and air force bases on Ceylon according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 3 December 1956

An item reported that the premier of Ceylon [Sri Lanka] Bandaranaike (1) arrived at London coming from New York to discuss with the British cabinet the future of the British naval and air force bases on Ceylon.

1. Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike (8 January 1899 Cetlon-26 September 1959 Colombo, Sri Lanka), since 1956 premier until he was murdered. He was succeeded by his spouse Sirimavo Ratwatte. Since 1796 until 1948 was Ceylon a British colony.
