Higher costs as expected for new American naval shipbuilding according to the Dutch newspaper De Banier dated 16 August 1934

An item reported that the tender of the American cabinet for the building of 24 warships caused large financial problems. The building costs were estimated to be around 50.000.000 US dollars instead of the lowest bidding of 72.000.000 US dollars! The higher costs were caused by higher prizes for raw materials and wages.
