Chinese cabinet tried to end smuggling according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 14 May 1934

An item reported that the Chinese cabinet tried to use all means to end the smuggling in the coastal area between Amoy and Shanghai. For this purpose were seven police vessels of about  800-1.000 tons built in Germany, England and by the shipyard of Wan Poo in Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. The crew existed of Chinese sailors with British officers commanding them. As ship’s officers were several former Indian J.C.J.L. officers appointed.
