Italian troop transport Minas torpedoed according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 23 February 1917

An item dated reported that the 17th in the Mediterranean was torpedoed by a submarine the Italian troop transport Minas. Although this loss was already known more details were supplied by Germany. The Vlissingse Courant of the same date confirmed this item adding that the Minas measured 2,854 gross tons. The Soldaten Courant dated 28 February mentioned a Minas was torpedoed on the 15th around 160 miles West of Cape Matapan underway to Saloniki. Part of the troops on board were saved by the ships which came to aid her. The Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 9 March published an item dated Berlin 9 March dealing with the Italian troop transport Minas torpedoed on 15 February in the Mediterranean while underway to Salonika. Two of the German submarines picked up some Italian soldiers which claimed that on board were one general, three colonels, two majors and 1,000 men which lost their lives when she went down.
