Swedish seagoing training ship Fylgia 1905-1967

Second World War appearance

In the Second World War serving as a seagoing training ship for cadets. With a displacement of 4,310 tons were her dimensions 337¾ (waterline) x 48½ x 20 2/3 (maximum) feet. Her crew numbered 341 men. She was laid down at the shipyard of Bergsund Co. at Stockholm, Sweden in October 1902, launched on 20 December 1905 and two years later completed and commissioned on 21 June and decommissioned on 1 January 1953. Although originally rated as a cruiser was she lacking enough speed to full fill the tasks of a cruiser. Her two sets 4 cylinder triple expansion oil fuel engines and 4 boilers had according to the design to supply via two shafts 13.000 hp allowing a speed of 21.5 knots. In 1939-1940 refitted causing an altered appearance. The armament consisted of 8-6” guns,  4-5,7cm anti aircraft guns, 4-4cm anti aircraft guns , 2 anti aircraft machineguns and further more 2x1-21” surfaced torpedo tubes. She was also armoured with a 4” thick belt, a sloping 2” deck and the conning tower and hoist and supports were protected by 4” thick armour and the gun turrets by 5”. Sold to be broken up in 1967
