Russian and Japanese sailors fighting in Chemulpo, Korea according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated Wednesday 4 November 1903

An item referred to the British newspaper Daily Mail which latter newspaper received tidings from Tokyo that on last Sunday on the quay at Chemulpo, Korea, sailors of the Russian gunboat Bobr (1) and the Japanese cruiser Chiyoda (2) fought with each other resulting in six wounded Japanese and an unknown number of Russians.

Notes
1. The Bobr was of the Sivuch-class with as only sister ship the Sivuch. Laid down in 1883 at Crichton, Abo and launched and completed in 1885 sunk the Bobr during the war with Japan (!) on 26 December 1904.. With a displacement of 1.230 tons and as dimensions 57,14 (waterline) x 10,67 x 2,90 metres). Her crew numbered 170 men and she was armed with 1-9”guns, 1-6”gun, 6-4.2” guns and 4-1pdr revolvers.
2. The Chiyoda was an armoured cruiser, laid down in November 1888 by J. Brown, Clydebank, launched on 3 June 1890, in December completed and broken up in 1927. With a displacement of 2.400 (normal) and as dimensions 94,49 (waterline) x 12,98 x 4,27 metres. Her crew numbered 350 men, twice the number of the Russian gunboat! She was armed with 10x1-4.7” guns, 14x1-3pdr guns, 3 gatling machineguns and 3-14” torpedo tubes.
