Brazilian corvette Foirte de Coimbra launched at Heusden according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuwsblad voor Sumatra dated 16 July 1954

An item reported that at the shipyard De Haan en Oerlemans N.V. at Heusden the corvette Forte de Coimbra was launched.(1). She was the First of the ten corvettes built in theNetherlands. Dimensions 51,14 (between perpendiculars)-55,72 (over all) x 9,30 x 3,55 and a hold of 4,60 metres. Fitted out with 2x1.080 hp at 300 rpm engines. Present during the launching were the Brazilian ambassador dr. Themistocles da Graca Aranha and the consul-general dr. Murillo Tassa Fragoso.

1. Of the Angostura-class of ten corvettes consisting of the Bahiana, Caboclo, Forte de Coimbra, Mearim, Iguatemy, Purus, Imperial Marinheiro, Solimoes, Ypiranga and the Angostura. With a displacement of 911 (standard) tons and as dimensions 184 x 30,5 x 11 2/3 feet. Her two Sulzer diesel engines supplied 2.160 bhp allowing a speed of 16 knots. With a oil fuel bunker capacity of 135 tons. The armament consisted of 1-4” gun and 4-4cm anti aircraft guns.
