An item dated Paris 26 August reported that the Cambodian minister of navy prince Sophanuvong (1) was appointed to officer in the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur for ‘eminent merit’. Another Dutch newspaper De Indische Courant of the same date confirmed this tiding although referring to an item dated Bordeaux 26 August.

The newspaper Algemeen Indisch dagblad”de Preangerbode dated 3 March 1955 referred to prince Norodom Suramit (6 March 1896 Phnom Penh-3 April 1960) who was to succeed his son Norodom Sihanouk as king of Cambodia. According to this item was he member of the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur and had he been minister of navy, trade and agriculture. He was king between 3 March 1955 and 3 April 1960.
