Dutch shipyards building Burmese patrol vessels according to the Dutch newspaper Het vrije volk dated 15 August 1953

An item reported that the Burmese cabinet ordering the building of six patrol vessels with a value of around 2.000.000 Dutch guilders at the Dutch shipyard Sleephelling Mij at Scheveningen.(1)

1. The newspaper Nieuwe Leidsche Courant dated 23 July 1954 reported that with some ceremony the first of the three patrol vessels built for Burma was launched at Scheveningen. The shipyard was forced to hand over half of the order of 2.000.000 Dutch guilders to the shipyard Bodewes, Groningen. The ships suited for tropical service were built of galvanized materials with the dimensions around 25 x 5,5 x 2,30-3,55 metres. The two Ruston engines allowed a maximum sped of 11 miles. The teak wood needed for the decks and cabinetwork was shipped from Burma to the Netherlands. The remaining two vessels were to be launched soon and in the meantime was Burma interested in ordering more. The newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 29 November 1954 published an item reporting that at the Dutch shipyard Bodewes Scheepswerven N.V. at Martenshoek the week before three steel built twin screw patrol vessels for the Burmese cabinet were launched each fitted out with 2x120 hp engines. After completion were the vessels to be transported over sea towards Burma.
