Dutch torpedo boat Dempo exchanging Brotherhood device with the Empong according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 20 August 1898

An item reported that the Dutch torpedo boat large model Dempo (1) commanded by lieutenant 2nd class Hoog departed the same evening at 18.45 o’clock from Hellevoetsluis via the North Sea towards Willemsoord. She was ordered by a telegram to exchange her Brotherhood device for electric diver force for the defected one of the Empong.

Displacement 83 tons and as dimensions 38,37 x 3,96 x 2.07 metres. Her compound steam engine of horsepower of 760 ihp allowed a speed of 20,55 miles. Her crew numbered 16 men. The armament consisted of 2-3,7cm guns, 1 torpedo gun and 2 torpedo tubes. Building costs ƒ 140.000,-.
