Dutch yard Conrad at Haarlem, Netherlands building dredgers for Prussia according to the Dutch newspaper Haarlem’s Dagblad dated Tuesday 24 January 1893

Last Saturday was with success the steam dredger Goliath launched, the second one of the seaworthy dredgers build for Prussian government account for the harbour works at Pillau. The edition dated dated 18 March published that according to a tiding received from Amsterdam, Netherlands that since Wednesday was lying on the IJ before Café Westerhoofd the iron build seaworthy steam dredger Simson build for the Prussian government to be used in the harbour of Pillau. She was nicely fitted out and in the large engine-room were two compound engines for the propulsion and for the centrifugal pumps which pressed the mud and water away. An independent engine was to drive the buckets, further more were an independent air- and circulation pump with surface condensers, a dynamo necessary for the electric lighting and two boilers each with fires. The accommodation for the mates, dredge master en the engineers were placed in the prow en quite luxury for the kind of vessel. The cabins were spacious and airy, the ship’s cages well built and broad and the wardrobe for the clothes wais sufficient. In each cabin was a steam stove, two electric lamps and two oil-fired lamps if the electric lamps were not working. The accommodation for the sailors were placed in the stern, at starboard for the stokers and portside for the sailors. In each compartment were seven cages en enough storage room for the clothes. Further more were there steam stoves and electric lamps and a sufficient laundry room. On deck was the large galley with a gigantic furnace and electric lightning and the deck was lightened by so-called arc lamps. The coal hold had a capacity of 60-70 tons. This vessel had one sister ship which was now being build at the yard. When the boilers and the engines were tested was she to depart fore her destination.
