An item reported that on board of the torpedo boat Coureur a steam cylinder exploded wounding two stokers.(1) Some magazines pointed again out the worse condition of the engines and insufficient training of the navy.

1. Of the Coureur-class with as sister ships Véloce and Grondeur. Launched on 13 June 1888 at the shipyard of Thornycroft and finally sold in 1912. With a displacement of 101 (normal)-125 (full load) tons and as dimensions 147’7” x 14’3” x 4’. Her triple expansion engine supplied 1.500 ihp allowing a speed of 23,5 knots. With a coal bunker capacity of 8 tons. Her armament consisted of 2-14” bow torpedo tubes and 2-4,7cm guns.
