Russian warships for the Vietminh according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 3 August 1954

An item reported that Russian gave the Vietminh ten gunboats and three destroyers for coastal guard duties. The Russian ministers for foreign affairs Molotov (1) promised this to the Vietminh-delegation at Geneva.(2)

1. Born as Vjatsjeslav Michajlovitsj Skrjabin calling himself Moltov since 1916 (25 February/9 March 1890 Koekarka-8 November 1985 Moscow), minister of foreign affairs 5 March 1953-1 June 1956).
2. The Vietminh or Việt Nam Ðộc Lập Ðồng Minh Hội dated from 19 May 1941 with as target to free Vietnam which was than a French colony French Indochina. The Geneva Conference of 27 April 1954 granted the independence from France. Vietnam fell apart in a South and a North Vietnam. On 1 September 1955 begun the Vietnam War ending on 30 April 1975 with the fall of Saigon.
