Lebanese Christian militia seized Greek tug Atlas according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder Courant dated 14 July 1978


An item reported that Lebanese pirates attacked and seized one mile off Beirut the Greek tug Atlas of Piraeus. Her owner said that the pirates were part of the Lebanese Christian militia.(1) They demanded 70.000 dollars before releasing the crew of 19 Greek sailors.

1. Probably the Forces Libanaises which was a Christian militia playing an import role during the civil war between 1975 and 1990. Afterwards she was converted into a politic party.
