West Germany interested in building submarines for Chile, Indonesia, Iran, Argentina, Peru and India according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 23 December 1980

An item reported that despite protest within the Parliament the West German cabinet allowed the delivery of submarines by German shipyards to Chile, Indonesia, Argentina. Peru and India. In 1979 was the delivery of submarines to Persia (Iran) cancelled when the reign of the sjah ended. The social democratic parliament members were particularly against the delivery to Chile (1) which country was involved in border conflicts with Argentina. The labourers at the shipyards however were more interested in keeping their jobs than political protests.
