Brazilian river monitor Javary launched according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 5

An item reported that the armoured Brazilian river monitor Javary was launched on 17 June [1913] at the shipyard of Vickers, Barrow.(1) She was the first of a class with as sister ships the Medeira and the Solimoes. With a displacement of 1.250 ton were the dimensions 265’ x 49’ x 4.5’. The armament consisted of 2-6” guns, 2-4.7” howitzers, 4-4.7cm machine guns and 6 machineguns. The speed was 11,5 miles. The upper deck was at the same the armour deck and the sides were protected by a belt decreasing in thickness at both ends.

1. She and her sister ships were acquired by the Royal Navy in 1914. The Javary became the HMS Humber, the Solimoes the Severn and the Madeira the Mersey.
