Dutch steam gunboat Hr. Ms. Hefring 1879->1941

Of the British Staunch-design. Nicknamed flat iron. Built in 1879 at the shipyard of the Nederlandse Stoombootmaatschappij Fijenoord with a displacement of 272 tons and as dimensions 26,67 (between perpendiculars)-27.84 (over all) x 8,20 x 2,48 metres. The horsepower of 170 ihp while driving 2 screws allowed a speed of just 7,55 miles. The original armament consisted of 1-28cm gun, 3-3,7cm guns of which one revolver,. In 1928 1-12cm gun, 2-3,7cm guns and 1-12,7mm machine gun. Her crew numbered 34 men. Commissioned on 20 April 1880. Later classified as a river gunboat. Despite her age during the German invasion in the Netherlands still in active service and on 14 May 1940 by her crew scuttled in the Buiten-IJ. On 23 September a year salvaged and the 26th transported to the Coenhaven in Amsterdam. There she sunk, was again salvaged but finally broken up.
