Japanese submarine no. 153 completed according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1925 No. 4
An item referred to the magazine Schiffbau dated July 1925 which reported that the Japanese submarine I53 was completed. Her keel was laid down in 1924 and she was completed in around 12 months. With a measurement of 1.700 ton was she largest ever built for Japan, The largest was until then the I51 of 1.500 ton of which the horsepower of 6.000 pk allowed a surfaced speed of 21 miles. She was laid down in 1921 and completed 3 years later. Although the armament of these large submarines was kept secret, it was known that they were fitted out with 14cm guns. It was thought that the Japanese submarines fleet numbered 79 units.
