An item referred to the magazine Schiffbau dated 11 June 1924 no. 17 reported that the Mexican navy practically existed of 6 gunboats. The eldest dated from 1890 with a displacement of 1.230 ton, a speed of 12 miles, an armament included 6-12cm, 2-5,1cm en 2-3,5cm and which was used as school ship. Two other gunboats had a displacement of 984 tons, a speed of 15 miles and were used as small troop transports. Two gunboats dated from 1903 and had a displacement of 1.210 ton and a speed of 17 miles. Of the sixth gunboat were no details known. Some of these gunboats were also fitted out as minelayers. Further more were two ships available for auxiliary purposes.
