Float planes for American submarines according to the Dutch newspaper De tribune dated 12 February 1931

An item reported that the American Grover Loening (1) invented as small model float plane with foldable which could be stored in a special for this purpose fitted out space on board of submarines and while at the surface could be started in this space. All tests were successful and presumably intended the US navy to fit out some of her submarines with these planes.

1. Grover Cleveland Loening (12 September 1888 Bremen, Germany-29 February 1976 Coconut Grove, Florida, USA). He founded in 1928 the Grover Loening Aircraft Company which was raised in 1933. During the Second World War he served as chief consultant for the War Production Board, NACA and Grumman. He was graduated at the Colombia University, New York City in Aeronautical Engineering.
