German submarine U293 escaped Spanish interment according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder Courant dated 10 September 1917

An item dated Cadiz the 9^th reported that the German submarine U293 was towed by a Spanish torpedo boat into the harbour caused by lacking oil. She was immediately interned. An item dated Madrid 7 October published the next day in the Dutch newspaper De Tijd  reported what happened afterwards. She escaped in the night of the6^th-7^th with as result that the Spanish premier suspended the responsible high army and navy officers. A second item dated London the 8^th reported that her crew was allow to go in Cadiz where ever she wanted and that her officers gave their word of honour no attempts to do to escape.
