Japanese navy experimenting with mini submarines according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 23 January 1934.

An item reported that the Japanese navy was testing a mini submarine with a length of just 9 metres and a diameter of 2, 5metres. Her crew numbered 4 men. Driven by electrically batteries had she a diving depth of around 160 metres. The newspaper Suriname of the 26th reported that recently at Tokyo a small submarine was launched with as dimensions 8 x 2 metres and to be used for inland waters. Originally was she built to be used in the coral fisheries.
