Japanese submarine I 68 launched according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 28 June 1933

An item dated Tokyo 27 June reported that the 26th in the presence of the Japanese minister of navy admiral Osumi at Kure a submarine was launched which was laid down in June 1931.(1) With a displacement of 1.400 ton was her length 100 metres and her surfaced speed 20 knots. Her crew numbered 61 men. The armament consisted of 1-12cm gun, 1 machine gun and 6 torpedo tubes. Another Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 27 July 1934 published an item dated Tokyo 25 July reporting that on the 31st the largest Japanese submarine until now the I-68 with a displacement of 1.650 tons was to be transferred to the Japanese navy. Her building was started in June 1931 at the navy yard at Kure and was now completed.

1. The I68 of the KD6a-class launched on 26 June 1933 at the Kure Navy Yard? Her dimensions were 102,60 (between perpendiculars)-104,70 (over all) x 8,20 x 4,58 metres and a displacement of 1.400 tons (standard)-1.785/2.440 tons. Sunk on 27 July 1943. She was renumbered in May 1942 into I 168.
