USA evacuating her citizens with the transport American Legion according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 22 August 1940

An item referred to the announcement of Sumner Welles that the transport American Legion with on board American citizens evacuated from Europe in the afternoon of the 21st located 400 miles west of the British coast and so in safe waters. Earlier reported the Provinciale Overijsselsche en Zwolsche courant dated the 6th about this evacuation. With extra trains travelled around 700 American citizens via Stockholm towards Petsamo to go there on board of the American Legion. The first group were the Americans living in Denmark, then around 200 living in Germany and the Baltic States and further more were 200 from Norway and 150 from Finland expected.
