American steam Western Arvade sunk after hitting a mine off Terschelling, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 17 September 1919

An item reported that the American steamship Western Arvada of 4.000 ton loaded with cotton and underway from Galveston, USA towards Bremen, Germany hit a mine off Terschelling, Netherlands. Her cargo was set into fire and afterwards sunk she in 10 fathoms deep water North West of Terschelling. Her crew included the wounded captain was safely landed at Terschelling. Her masts and part of her stern was still visible above the water surface.
