Soviet ships Carl Liebknecht and Svoboda visiting Gent, Belgium, according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 10 June 1923

An item dated Brussels the 9th reported that the harbour of Gent was visited by two Soviet ships called Carl Liebknecht and Svoboda arrived underway from Riga towards England with a cargo of flax. The ships were already underway to their destination. The first ship measured 5.400 ton with a crew numbering 41 men all Russian and needed 7 days for the voyage Riga-Gent without entering any harbour. The second ship was smaller. The police at Gent took all precautions to prevent any contact between the citizens and the Soviet sailors.
