According to other letters from Hydra were all vessels fitted out with all possible haste. Hydra and Spezzia were to supply the Greek navy with 40-45 ships. Syra, 11 May. The tiding arrived that the Turkish squadron arrived the 7th off Negreponte. Three ships of Ipsara who blockaded the island were unexpectedly attacked and their crews fled on land while setting their ships including a fire ship in fire. Syra, 12 May. A letter from Scopelo reported that the Turkish squadron of 70 ships was sighted. The inhabitants feared for their fate but were ready to fight for their lives. The squadron passed in the night the Mount Athos and wasn’t sighted by the coastguard of Iosario.
