Naval operations of the Dutch East Company at Banda according to the Generale Missive dated 5 April 1742

There wasn’t transport available for the mace and nutmegs due to the loss of the Steenhoven, sloop Nagelboom and tanjongpoera Reetje. The Leiduin, which sailed via Macassar, and the Beekvliet, which directly towards Banda, were ordered for this purpose. Five useless orembaaien were sold for 430 rijksdaalders. Ships might only be sold with approval of Batavia. The master of the pantjalang Darouw was ordered to threaten the civilians of Matabella with displeasure of the company. Selling by them of some Amboynesians to Cerammers caused this. Due to the fact of the loss of the Steenhoven the distribution of bacon and meat was 50% decreased. The Lastdrager was repaired and sent back. There was a request for more sloops for patrolling, it was only possible to sent a boat of 50 feet length to be used as water supplier and a 8 rows barge. The last year became the unloading of ships a large problem due to lacking boats. This caused a late departure of the Ananas. The sloops Reuk, Steenbok and Europa were broken up. It was ordered to look well after the boats to avoid large costs as for the sloops Lastdrager and Nagelboom, namely fl. 22.388; both sloops belonged to the factory Amboyna.
