Spanish cabinet arming merchant ships according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 21 November 1936

An item reported that according to tidings from Tangier the Spanish cabinet was arming all merchant ships in the Spanish harbours with the intention to disturb the shipping in the Strait of Gibraltar and to bombard the Spanish and Moroccan coasts. It was expected that the warships Jaime Primero and Almirante Cervantes would be active in the coming week. The new guns of these and other vessels seemed to be Russian.
