Spanish submarine Isaac Peral 1916->1930

Launched at the Fore River Company, USA on 27 July 1916 using a Holland-design resembling the USS M1 and allowed to be built under the Navy law of 17 February 1915.(1) Since 1930 called A-0 and the same year hulked. Her armament consisted of 4-45,7cm/18” torpedo tubes all situated in the bow and further more 1-3” anti aircraft gun. Her crew numbered 24 men. With a displacement of 488 (surfaced)-750 (submerged) tons were her dimensions 60,0 x 5,8 x 3,4 metres or 197’x 19’x 11’. Her two Nelseco (MAN-USA license built) diesels and electric engines supplied via two shafts respectively 1.000 bhp and 480 shp allowing a speed of 15 (surfaced)-10 (submerged) knots.

The Dutch navy magazine Marineblad dated 1916-1917 no. 5 referred to the Moniteur de la Flotte reporting that she was launched at Quincy by the Electric Boat Company and of the USS Schley-design.

1. Named after the Spanish engineer-sailor-designer Isaac Peraly y Caballero (1 June 1851 Cartagena, Spain-22 May 1895 Berlin, Germany) who designed the Peral Submarine [called a submarine torpedo boat] launched in 1888.
