The American naval shipbuilding program according to the Dutch newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 4 January 1932
The commission for naval affairs of the House of Representatives send a bill to the Congress asking for a budget of 616.250.000 dollar to modernize in the next 10 years the US navy and a budget of 18.000.000 to lay down the keel of some ships in coming June. Immediately approval of the latter budget was necessary. The journalist expected a heavy discussion dealing with this program which included the building of 120 warships including 3 mother plane ships [carriers], 85 destroyers, 9 cruisers of the Inch-class and 23 submarines. The bill was sported by the strong naval group in the House and the Senate.
