The Danish brig of war Mercurius at Curacao according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 December 1852
In the local newspaper Utrechtsche Courant were tidings from Curacao dated until 6 November published according to which the Danish brig of war Mercurius (1) departed from Curacao to St. Kruis (=Danish island Sankt Croix=nowadays American Virgin islands) while saluting fort Amsterdam which saluted her in return. She visited Curacao with many sick men due to the fellow fever. The ship was placed in quarantine and 17 men were brought to the quarantine hospital of which 4 in the first days died. The remaining 13 men went recovered back on board. Totally died 12 men of her crew, five at Puerte Cabello, 2 at the day of arrival at Curacao, one when he was transported to the hospital and 4 in the hospital.
