The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 4 December 1824
Frankfurt, 29 November. An account of the Greek admiral Miaulis dated Ipsara 8 October supplied more details dealing with the last fights. After searching without success for the enemy off Scio and Tschisme was she sighted 6 October between the Agnussen (south of Mitylene) and Kanaburen. As soon as the Turkish fleet was aware of the Greek fleet she fled to Mitylene. When the Greek fleet came near the Turkish fleet begun the battle around 05.00 o’clock and around 06.00 o’clock some Greek fire ships attacked the Turkish. Captain Filipango attacked with his fire ship a frigate which sadly escaped despite the fact that some of her crewmembers fell overboard. Two other captains succeeded in burning a 24-gun brig as an offer of nightly revenge for mother Hellas. The enemy fled towards Cape Sigri harassed by a continuous Greek gunfire. Around 10.00 o’clock managed a fire ship to enter a large corvette which exploded and the enemy still trying to escape from the battle scene. In the morning of the 7th entered again a fire ship a corvette but despite the fact that her rigging set fire she managed to escape. After pursuing the Turkish fleet the whole day anchored the Greek fleet between Scio and Ipsara. According to the Turkish prisoners from the partly burnt frigate and the destroyed corvette and brig sailed the Topal pasha 4 October with 15 ships from Constantinople leaving the other ships and all of the frigates under the command of Ibrahim pasha. The latter intended to some men to collect the warships and transports left behind at Kos and Boudroun and to stay during the winter in the harbour of Suda (Candia) and to send the Turkish ships from there to Constantinople. Others thought that Ibrahim pasha intended to go straight with the Turkish fleet towards Coron and Modon. A letter from Constantinople dated 26 October stated that the Captain pasha was threatened with the death from all sides. The Greek burnt 15 October off Mitylene 2 warships which were part of the Turkish fleet who fled to this port.
