The German submarine fleet according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland- staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad morning edition dated 22 December 1936

The press association Reuter reported from Berlin that in the spring of 1937 the German submarine fleet with 35 units would have twice the size of the submarine fleet at outbreak of the first world war. According to the naval annual publication for 1937 consisted the submarine fleet of:24 submarines of 250 tons (U1-U24), each armed with 3 torpedo tubes and with a crew of around 25 men.2 new submarines of 712 ton (U25 and 26), armed with 6 torpedo tubes, 1-10,5cm gun and a crew of 40 men.10 submarines of 500 ton, armed with 5 torpedo tubes and 1-8,8cm gun and a crew of 35 men. The U 18 had to be excluded from this list as she was recently sunk caused by a collision off Kiel.
