November. By Royal decision was the reorganisation of the Swedish navy since 2
November a fact. It was the intention to combine the two existing fleets,
namely the so-called ‘scheeren’-fleet (inland and coastal) and the battle
fleet. A fund which earlier existed in the period of Carl XII and Gustaf III
was re-established and mend to give excellent sea officers the opportunity to
study abroad. There was a sum of 4.000 rix available to be divided yearly in
annual payments of 50-100
pound, while a second sum of 1.000 rix available was for
petty officers who got maximum 15
pound. The sea artillery was to be replaced by a new
corps of naval gunners existing of 9 companies and one elite company. The first
numbered 72 men, the latter 46, totally 872 men excluded 35 officers, 40 petty
officers and 36 musicians.
